Being an Authentic Parish
11/1/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Why do we seek to be an active parish? Living one's faith is part of being an Orthodox Christian. We do not believe in the abstract - we live our faith from the Divine Services, to the Youth Group, to Bible Studies, to our Church School, to our English Divine Service outreach, to our Brotherhood, our Sisterhood, and more. We LIVE our faith. And in case you're not sure that this is really authentic for an Orthodox Christian, please read this letter from Archbishop Peter in this regard:

ARCHBISHOP PETER PASTORAL LETTER

Now that you have read our ruling hierarch's letter, please talk to Fr. Gregory. It is understood that not everyone can do everything. But everyone should do what they can. We all have a ministry - please pray about what yours is/should be. And then volunteer to support your ministry, your parish family, and those who are not yet part of the parish family but will be in the future, attracted by the way the love of Christ shines forth from our parish family through our sincere efforts to serve God and our fellow man through being an active parish!

Things We Sing Together at St. Vladimir's
10/1/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

There are several prayers that we sing together at St. Vladimir's. We want you to know this so that you can practice. :) That way we will sing these with zeal - with power! WE SHOULD BE LIFTING THE ROOF WHEN WE SING THESE - THEY SHOULD BE SUNG VERY STRONGLY - ESPECIALLY THE CREED AND "HAVING BEHELD THE RESURRECTION..."

Saturday Vigil (and matins during Pentecost) - "Having Beheld the Resurrection of Christ":

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers
7/1/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The Fathers tell us that a man gains possession of the fear of God by keeping the thought of death before his mind and remembering eternal punishment, by examining himself each evening about how he has passed the day and each morning about how he has passed the night; by never giving rein to his tongue and by keeping in close and continual touch with a man possessed of the fear of God, as his spiritual director.

A brother once said to one of the elders, What shall I do, Father, that I may learn to fear the Lord? And he said, Go and become a disciple of a man possessed of the fear of the Lord. We chase away from us the fear of the Lord by the fact that we do just the opposite; we do not keep before us the thought of death, or punishment, nor do we attend to our own condition, or examine how we spend our time, but we live differently and are occupied with different things, pandering to our liberty, giving way to ourselves, self-indulgence this is the worst of all, this is perfect ruin.

What chases away the fear of the Lord as effectively as indulging our fancies? . And when he was asked again, Is it so very dangerous? he said, Yes, there is nothing more dangerous than self-indulgence. It prepares the ground for all the vices because it chases out from the soul the fear of God.'

Inclement Weather Policy - Ice in the Forecast
6/1/19, 04:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

In case of inclement weather St. Vladimirs parishioners are urged to use caution and their best judgment when deciding whether to travel to the parish church for Divine Services. If the priest is able to reach the church the Divine Services will be conducted, but if parishioners perceive the driving conditions to be dangerous they should not feel compelled to travel to church.
