Proper Attire in Church
12/7/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

As the weather warms it is always a temptation to come to church dressed not quite appropriately. We provide the information below as a guide to help make good decisions about what to wear to church:

http://stvladimiraami.org/flyers/properattire.pdf

PARENTS: it is YOUR responsibility to assure that your child is dressed appropriately.

TWO ISSUES WE STRUGGLE WITH EVERY YEAR: no shorts and no uncovered shoulders - no matter the age.

ANOTHER ISSUE WE STRUGGLE WITH: we have skirts and shawls to share if needed. But these are not items to be used as weapons in the attack of a visitor, but to be offered lovingly if it is clear that someone feels out of place because they innocently came to church dressed inappropriately.

Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or concerns.

Being an Authentic Parish
12/7/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Why do we seek to be an active parish? Living one's faith is part of being an Orthodox Christian. We do not believe in the abstract - we live our faith from the Divine Services, to the Youth Group, to Bible Studies, to our Church School, to our English Divine Service outreach, to our Brotherhood, our Sisterhood, and more. We LIVE our faith. And in case you're not sure that this is really authentic for an Orthodox Christian, please read this letter from Archbishop Peter in this regard:

http://stvladimiraami.org/flyers/abpmid ... -23-16.pdf

Now that you have read our ruling hierarch's letter, please talk to Fr. Gregory. It is understood that not everyone can do everything. But everyone should do what they can. We all have a ministry - please pray about what yours is/should be. And then volunteer to support your ministry, your parish family, and those who are not yet part of the parish family but will be in the future, attracted by the way the love of Christ shines forth from our parish family through our sincere efforts to serve God and our fellow man through being an active parish!

Weekly Educational Offering
11/7/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the childrens portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: an explanation of this coming Sunday's Gospel reading from Blessed Theophylact:

Silence in Church Please
10/7/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is important that we make an effort a real effort to refrain from speaking in church. We have gotten a bit lax about this lately and the timing is not good. Archbishop Peter will be visiting soon and he will most certainly correct this inappropriate behavior if we do not correct it ourselves. And we will like it a lot less if he feels the need to do this than if we learn to do this on our own. If one absolutely must have a conversation during the time of the Divine Services this should be done either:

1. In the kiosk area IN VERY HUSHED TONES. The glass doors are by no means sound proof. We are failing quite terribly here. The Parish Council will discuss this at the next meeting and measures will be taken to cut down on the cacophony coming from behind the glass doors during the Divine Liturgy.

2. Outside

3. Most appropriately, unless the conversation involves a life or death situation: at the meal after the Divine Liturgy

4. We ask parents that if they bring toys for their children that these be soft toys that to do not make noise when dropped on the floor or on the benches.

Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or concerns.

Lampadas above the Royal Doors - Please be Attentive
9/7/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We ask all to be attentive to the system we have devised to help folks know when they can and when they cannot move about during the Divine Services to light candles, etc. Even as we ask all to be attentive we also ask all to be loving, and if someone clearly is not aware that we have reached a time in the Divine Service when we should be still that we share that information with them lovingly and in a way that will not cause embarrassment. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or concerns. See flyer here - printable version (legal size):

At the Parish Council meeting on March 11, 2017 a Stewardship Education Team was appointed by the Parish Council consisting of Fr. Gregory, Jack (Alexey) Mitchel, and Leta (Ksenia) Nikulshina. Please find the quarterly communication at the link below. Please note that we will have a question and answer period during the parish meal on Sunday, July 29, 2018 to allow for questions in an open forum. However, please feel free to contact any of us, or any of the Parish Council members, with questions at any time. Or, if you prefer, use the second link below to ask a question or make a comment anonymously.

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers

Troubles are usually the brooms and shovels that smooth the road to a good mans fortune; and many a man curses the rain that falls upon his head, and knows not that it brings abundance to drive away hunger.
