Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers
8/7/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Human beings have accumulated in their coffers gold and silver, clothes more sumptuous than useful, diamonds and other objects that are evidence of war and tyranny; then a foolish arrogance hardens their hearts; for their brothers in distress, no pity. What utter blindness! . . . Attend not to the law of the strong but to the law of the Creator. Help nature to the best of your ability, honor the freedom of creation, protect your species from dishonor, come to its aids in sickness, rescue it from poverty . Seek to distinguish yourself from others only in your generosity. Be like gods to the poor, imitating Gods mercy. Humanity has nothing so much in common with God as the ability to do good.

Please join us for a series of spiritual discussion this fall on Wednesday evenings following the weekly akathist for the ill. The topic of the discussions will be the Divine Services. We will go into some detail about the meaning, symbolism, and history of the Divine Liturgy and the other services we often participate in as Orthodox Christians. There will be a little homework, but not much we promise. More soon to come, but please keep your Wednesday evenings free if you can beginning with the first Wednesday of October!

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
3/7/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the childrens portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: from the writings of Blessed Theophylact

For Children: from the Antiochian Archdiocese (various age groups)

As a fish cannot swim without water, and as a bird cannot fly without air, so a Christian cannot advance a single step without Christ.

Non-Perishable Food Items Gathered at Every Service
28/6/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Beginning on Saturday, June 15 we provide our parishioners the opportunity to bring non-perishable food items to St. Vladimirs at every Divine Service. The bin to deposit these is located between the two bathrooms in the foyer of the parish church. This is a great opportunity to teach our children the value of helping those in need a value our Lord made it clear that we should fulfill in the 25th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. It is also a great opportunity to remind ourselves of this important Christian precept. Our goal here is to change our St. Vladimir family paradigm to I am going to church I need to grab a non-perishable food item and bring it with me. Lets all work hard on that paradigm so that in a small way we are all working together to follow our Lords commandment ...Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me.

Special Needs Ministry We Need You!
28/6/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Inspired by the incredible work of Fr. Vladimir Klimzo in Russia, and with the understanding that here in American the vast majority (perhaps up to 80% according to some studies) of families with special needs children or adult children do not attend church ALTHOUGH THEY WOULD LIKE TO we have established a Special Needs Ministry at St. Vladimirs.

OUR FIRST CYCLE OF SERVICES OF THIS MINISTRY IS SLATED FOR TONIGHT AND TOMORROW!

Join us in providing a spiritual home for those seeking one, but struggling to connect with a parish family! Attend the services. Support those visiting. Help how you can. If we do our best, and we ask the Lord's blessing, we will do well.
