Monday First Things: Teaching of the Holy Fathers

If you practice an excellent virtue without perceiving the taste of its aid, do not marvel; for until a man becomes humble, he will not receive a reward for his labor. Recompense is given, not for labor, but for humility.

Dormition Fast Begins August 14
13/8/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please note that the Lenten period in preparation for the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God begins on August 14. This is fast of a stricter character, similar to Great Lent. Fish is allowed only on the feast of the Transfiguration, August 19. It is important that we make a sincere effort at fasting by abstaining from meat and dairy products, but with the express intent of abstaining from these foods to aid us in abstaining from our sins and preparing ourselves worthily for the feast of the Dormition. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions (or for some great fasting recipes!).

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
12/8/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the childrens portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: from the writings of Blessed Theophylact

For Children: from the Antiochian Archdiocese (various age groups)

IOCC Kits this Dormition Fast
11/8/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The Lenten period in preparation for the feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God begins August 14. It is our tradition to make IOCC School Kits (to help kids in countries that need to bring their own school supplies to school in order to attend school) during this Lenten period. Well do the same this year with appropriate disease precautions. On Sunday, August 16 we will have a special collection to support this effort. If you cant make it that day please contact Marina Edwards to make your donation. On Saturday, August 22 we will make the school kits following the Divine Liturgy (starting about 10:30 a.m.). This is an important effort to get our KIDS involved in. They will be helping their peers in other countries to be educated. Please plan to join us in supporting this important effort!

Monday First Things: Teaching of the Holy Fathers
10/8/20, 06:00 AM

In all things that you find in the Holy Scriptures, seek out the purpose of the words, that you may enter into the depth of the thoughts of the saints and understand them with greater exactness. Do not approach the reading of the Divine Scriptures without prayer and asking the help of God. Consider prayer to be the key to the true understanding of that which is said in the Holy Scriptures.
