How to Support St. Vladimirs
20/9/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

People often ask us how they can make donations to St. Vladimirs other than by making a donation at church. We work continuously to make this as easy for our parish family and friends as we can and we appreciate your feedback in this regard.

Please read here a short piece about the best way to support St. Vladimirs by making a planned recurring gift to our parish:

http://stvladimiraami.org/flyers/plannedstewardship.pdf

How to make such a recurring gift? If it is favorable or more convenient for you to use a credit card, please visit our Network for Good giving page:

https://stvladimiraami.networkforgood.com/projects/36049-stewardship-tithes-general-fund

If you prefer PayPal:

If you would prefer to make a recurring gift by making an electronic transfer from your bank to ours, you will need some or all of the information below. If you need more information than what is found here, please email us at treasurer@stvladimiraami.org.

You need the name of the church bank: Chase Bank
You need the name on the account: St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Church
You may need the address: 9900 Jackson Rd. Dexter, MI 48130-9426
You'll need the American Banking Association Routing Number: 07 2000326
You'll need the account number: email us at info@stvladimiraami.org

We welcome and encourage you to remember the parish in your will or in other estate planning.

The deadline to reach our fund raising goal is 11:59 p.m. on September 23, 2018. Give now to help us reach our goal!

Our goal is $1200/month of pledges for 5 years. If we reach our goal we build this year and start instruction in 2019. Right now, between private pledges and pledges at the site below we have $490/month. That is not bad! Over 33% with 3.5 days to go. But we need you - NOW. Time is running out - join us now by making a small pledge and - perhaps even more importantly - engage your friends to do the same!

Like to make a private pledge? Please contact us at info@stvladimiraami.org

Proper Attire in Church
19/9/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

As the weather cools it is always a temptation to come to church dressed not quite appropriately. We provide the information below as a guide to help make good decisions about what to wear to church:

http://stvladimiraami.org/flyers/properattire.pdf

PARENTS: it is YOUR responsibility to assure that your child is dressed appropriately.

TWO ISSUES WE STRUGGLE WITH EVERY YEAR: no shorts and no uncovered shoulders - no matter the age.

ANOTHER ISSUE WE STRUGGLE WITH: we have skirts and shawls to share if needed. But these are not items to be used as weapons in the attack of a visitor, but to be offered lovingly if it is clear that someone feels out of place because they innocently came to church dressed inappropriately.

Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or concerns.

Ukraine Issues - A Short Primer on the Present Church Crisis
18/9/18, 03:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

As with any crisis in the world, in the Church, or in our families, our first reaction as Orthodox Christians should be prayer. And sobriety. Sober prayer to the Lord that He help us to work through the crisis at hand and to grow spiritually during the time of the crisis. If we can solve the problem then we should try to do that. If not then we should ask the Lord to solve it in a way that is best for the salvation of all involved. But we should not lose our peace. We begin with this because keeping ones peace is a real challenge in emotional situations let us ask the Lords help in this regard in light of the present crisis in the Church...

Help us Reach our Parish School Goal - LAST WEEK TO GIVE!
18/9/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank you to everyone who participated in our parish extraordinary meeting on Sunday, August 26! At this meeting we decided how we would move forward with the building of our parish school: by September 23, 2018 we will need to have $1200/month in pledges set for five years OR $70,000 in our Parish School bank account. So we have lots of work to do! Please help! This is a time sensitive situation if we push further out than September 23 it is virtually certain that we will miss this years construction season, and that will make it impossible to begin instruction in 2019.

1. Please establish a pledge or make a donation today. Visit the fund raising page below or reach out to Fr. Gregory with questions

2. Talk to your friends. We can easily reach that $1200/month if we all chip in just a little! And if we add like-minded friends and loved ones who support Orthodox Christian education we can far surpass that goal!

3. Ask questions! Would you like to learn more about the Ann Arbor Orthodox Christian Academy? Send an email to Fr. Gregory, call him, or see him in church. He or any member of the School Steering Committee can answer your questions.

4. Volunteer! Join the School Steering Committee! We need lots of hands to help with this pleasant and much needed work.

This is a great challenge for our parish family, but a completely attainable one if we all pitch in and help just a bit. Please join our school team and help us surpass our goal!

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers
17/9/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

This expression, however, the Word was made flesh [John 1:14], can mean nothing else but that he partook of flesh and blood like to us; he made our body his own, and came forth man from a woman, not casting off his existence as God, or his generation of God the Father, but even in taking to himself flesh remaining what he was. This the declaration of the correct faith proclaims everywhere. This was the sentiment of the holy Fathers; therefore they ventured to call the holy Virgin, the Mother of God, not as if the nature of the Word or his divinity had its beginning from the holy Virgin, but because of her was born that holy body with a rational soul, to which the Word, being personally united, is said to be born according to the flesh.
