Divine Liturgy Explained
27/9/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The Divine Service we attend most often is the Divine Liturgy. We know it, but do we know it? The better we understand the Divine Liturgy the more we will engage in this "work of the people", and the more we will get from it. Or perhaps better put, the more it will transform us. And since we are seeking to be transformed into the children of God, should we not take the time to delve more deeply into the Divine Liturgy - the most theologically significant Divine Service? That is a purely rhetorical question of course, since the answer must be "yes"! The article below is a classic of the 20th century, written by one of the most influential theologians of that time. That time was not that long ago - and this article is well, well worth the read!

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers
24/9/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

This expression, however, the Word was made flesh [John 1:14], can mean nothing else but that he partook of flesh and blood like to us; he made our body his own, and came forth man from a woman, not casting off his existence as God, or his generation of God the Father, but even in taking to himself flesh remaining what he was. This the declaration of the correct faith proclaims everywhere. This was the sentiment of the holy Fathers; therefore they ventured to call the holy Virgin, the Mother of God, not as if the nature of the Word or his divinity had its beginning from the holy Virgin, but because of her was born that holy body with a rational soul, to which the Word, being personally united, is said to be born according to the flesh.

Liturgy on your Name's Day?
21/9/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is a true blessing to have the opportunity to partake of Holy Communion on one's patron saint's day. Fr. Gregory is willing to consider serving Liturgy on your name's day yes YOURS. If you would be willing to attend the Divine Services on the eve of the feast and on the feast itself, and to partake of Holy Communion on that day please contact him. This is not a guarantee that we can do this but we can certainly try. But please don't tell him a week before. Something like six months before would be better three months before as a minimum. See Fr. Gregory with questions or email ogrisha@stvladimiraami.org!
