Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers
20/11/17, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The truly intelligent man pursues one sole objective: to obey and conform to the God of all. With this single aim in view, he disciplines his soul, and whatever he may encounter in the course of his life, he gives thanks to God for the compass and depth of His providential ordering of all things.

For it is absurd to be grateful to doctors who give us bitter and unpleasant medicines to cure our bodies, and yet to be ungrateful to God for what appears to us to be harsh, not grasping that all we encounter is for our benefit and in accordance with His providence. For knowledge of God and faith in Him is the salvation and perfection of the soul.

Lampadas above the Royal Doors - Please be Attentive
17/11/17, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We ask all to be attentive to the system we have devised to help folks know when they can and when they cannot move about during the Divine Services to light candles, etc. Even as we ask all to be attentive we also ask all to be loving, and if someone clearly is not aware that we have reached a time in the Divine Service when we should be still that we share that information with them lovingly and in a way that will not cause embarrassment. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or concerns. See flyer here - printable version (legal size):

No Cell Phones in Church Please
16/11/17, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please be courteous to your fellow worshipers and be sure to turn off your cell phone when entering the church, or at the very least turn the ringer to the vibrate function. When traveling in Russia Fr. Gregory saw this sign: "Those cell phones that ring in church will be submerged in Holy Water!". We will not go that far, but we hope this helps you remember how important it is to turn off your phone...

Thank you for you attention to this important matter!

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
15/11/17, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the childrens portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: from the writings of Blessed Theophylact:

Deacon Ordination this Sunday - Instructions for Parishioners
13/11/17, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

God willing, Subdeacon Dmitry Kashchenko will be ordained a deacon this Sunday for service at our St. Vladimir parish. Ordination is the sacrament of the Holy Church that we least often participate in, but it is important that we all participate in this ordination appropriately. We ask all our parishioners to review the ordination instructions here and to address questions to Fr. Gregory or Fr. Moses. Please remember - the Divine Liturgy begins this coming Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers

One should not say that it is impossible to reach a virtuous life; but one should say that it is not easy. Nor do those who have reached it find it easy to maintain. Those who are devout and whose intellect enjoys the love of God participate in the life of virtue; the ordinary intellect, however, is worldly and wavering, producing both good and evil thoughts, because it is changeful by nature and directed towards material things. But the intellect that enjoys the love of God punishes the evil which arises spontaneously because of mans laziness.
