Evangelism: Give a Ride to Church
7/12/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We do not see our elderly parish family members at church every Sunday. And that is true for some of our students too. The reason for this is: they need rides to church. And they need a little prompting sometimes in this regard since they don't want to be ďa botherĒ. It is a privilege to serve our our elderly parish family members and students in this way and we need to be quite zealous about it. This is Evangelism - spreading the Gospel by allowing those who cannot drive to be exposed to it in God's House!

If you can help organize or participate in this ministry please contact Fr. Gregory. There are not a lot of folks that need rides, but they need to be contacted early in the week to arrange the Sunday ride, assured that they are not bothering anyone, and they need to be picked up in a timely manner on Sunday morning. One person doesn't have to do all this, and frankly speaking, based on where our elderly and students live, it would be impossible for one person to do it all. We need several people to help. Please contact Fr. Gregory to take part in this very honorable activity Ė an activity worth waking up early on Sunday morning to participate in.

The Ann Arbor Saint Ė Our Spiritual Responsibility
5/12/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

December 12. This is a date to put on your calendars. Why? We have been given a HUGE privilege in that the Lord saw fit to allow St. Mardarije (Uskokovic) to repose in Ann Arbor. That is right - we have our own Ann Arbor saint! How many Orthodox Christians all over the world would LOVE to have their own saint! A saint that reposed in their city! And our response to this incredible gift that the the Lord gave us is: YAWN. Nothing. No response. No interest. Really? Have we become that cold to spiritual life that we look at the gift that the Lord gave us and our response is to be simply dead? Where are the newborn boys in our parish named Mardarije? Where are the molebens being served to OUR SAINT? Where is the personal veneration of the big and lovely icon we have in our parish church? Perhaps our issues stem from not knowing the life of this favorite of God.

This Friday & Saturday we hold our all-English cycle of Divine Services at St. Vladimirís. This is a great opportunity to introduce our friends, loved ones, and neighbors to the beauty of the Orthodox Divine Services. But if you keep this secret they wonít know. As a rule we are very bad at secrets. Terrible actually. Yet this one we seems to do relatively well at keeping Ė and that is bad! Letís tattle! Letís tell! Letís gossip (sort of)! Donít keep the cure for death that is the Orthodox Faith a secret Ė invite a friend, loved one, neighbor, stranger to our all-English services this weekend!

Matching Grant this Nativity Lent
4/12/19, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

A parish family has offered $2500 to our parish as a matching grant for the duration of the Nativity Lent (from now until January 7, 2020). How do we match that gift? By establishing a RECURRING donation to our parish. For every $1 given as a RECURRING donation to St. Vladimirís we get $1 of that matching grant. A recurring donation is an automatic payment or transfer from your credit card or bank account to St. Vladimirís that happens on a regular basis that you establish. Usually this is monthly, but you could do it using any frequency that is convenient for you. The key is that the donation be recurring Ė not a one time donation. Recurring donations are very important for our parish Ė and they are important for our parish family because they allow our parishioners to make their decisions about stewardship in a considered, prayerful way, and to fulfill the economic welfare piece of what a member of a parish is according to the Normal Parish Bylaws of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia:

ďAll Orthodox Christians of both sexes, regardless of their nationality, who have reached the age of 21 years, who pay the established membership dues, who make their confession and take Holy Communion not less than once a year, and who take care of the moral and economic welfare of the parish may become parish members.Ē

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
4/12/19, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the childrenís portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.
