Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers

If you are truly interested in the welfare of your children, why do you not watch as strictly, but once a week, how they attend to their lessons in the study of the Law of God, as you do in some home-work, which the children seemed to be forced to have prepared within the next twelve hours for their public school? You must obey God, above the public and all other masters, or lose your souls for the responsibility which rests upon you for the present and future welfare of your children.

Where there is intellect, there always will be knowledge. Still, you must educate the child. Teach the boy and girl geography and history; but if you do not train the childs will, in order not only to please you, its parents, but to bend before the holy will of Him, who is the only just rewarder of good and evil, then you are a failure as a Christian. Where there is no discipline, there is no constancy.

Dear St. Vladimirs Parishioners! Our Parish Council would like to urge you to consider whether making a donation to the parish before December 31, 2017 would be helpful for you as you consider your tax liability for the year 2017. Donations to St. Vladimir Church are deductible to the greatest extent allowable by law. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions in this regard. It is also very important that your address be up to date in our parish database. If you have moved, have a new email or cell phone, or other contact information, please visit this link to update your information with the parish to assure that you receive your 2017 tax letter:

Inclement Weather Policy - Snow in the Forecast
15/12/17, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

In case of inclement weather St. Vladimirs parishioners are urged to use caution and their best judgment when deciding whether to travel to the parish church for Divine Services. If the priest is able to reach the church the Divine Services will be conducted, but if parishioners perceive the driving conditions to be dangerous they should not feel compelled to travel to church.

Extra Divine Services for Nativity Lent Participation Welcome!
14/12/17, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is our parish practice to serve many of the Great Lenten services during the week, but we have never added extra services during Nativity Lent. Until this year! There will be Divine Services at least once during each week of the Nativity Fast OUTSIDE the usual Saturday/Sunday services this year. This is part of an effort within the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America to serve Divine Liturgy at least once daily during the upcoming Nativity Fast. Sign up today to help with these services (sing, read, serve in the altar) here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IOZwEikNAjdaykb1t2ih7PlWY8AKEDwIoHlm_m7lTfw/edit?usp=sharing

December 13
December 15 - CANCELED
December 22
December 29
January 4

Please join us as your personal schedule allows! Make a special effort to attend at least some of the weekday Lenten services this Nativity Fast!

Wednesday Evening Activities Canceled
13/12/17, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Friends,

Based on the forecast for today it seems unwise to hold our usual Wednesday evening activities. Thus, the Akathist tonight and the Adrian Bible Study will be canceled. This is just one of those things we have to deal with living in Michigan. Thank you for your understanding.

In Christ,

Fr. Gregory

This is the great work of man: always to take the blame for his own sins before God and to expect temptation to his last breath.

But nothing causes such exceeding grief as when anyone, lying under the captivity of sin, calls to mind from where he has fallen, because he turned aside to carnal and earthly things, instead of directing his mind in the beautiful ways of the knowledge of God. So you find Adam concealing himself, when he knew that God was present and wishing to be hidden when called by God with that voice which wounded the soul of him yourself? Why are you concealed? Why do you avoid Him Whom you once longed to see? A guilty conscience is so burdensome that it punishes itself without a judge, and wishes for covering, and yet is bare before God.
